Heaven And Earth Touch

Luke 9:28

And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.

Jesus selected Peter, John, and James to go with Him up into a mountain to pray. What an incredible scene there is on this mountain. Heaven and earth kiss each other. We have visitors from heaven that came down to share with travelers on earth. It’s a great scene to experience. This passage is so important that all of the three gospel writers chose to bring it to focus. There are some things that Matthew discusses that Mark does not. There are some things that Mark will bring to focus about which Luke has nothing at all to say. But here is a passage that Matthew, Mark and Luke all three bring in to focus.

In Matthews gospel you will find this passage in chapter 17:1-9. In Marks gospel it is in Mark 9:1-13. And then in Lukes Gospel it is in chapter 9:28-36. All three accounts come together to present to us this beautiful picture of heaven and earth sharing with each other. This is actually out of this world. You will see in this text some things that you have been questioning yourself about in relation to people that have already gone off the scene. What an awesome passage this portion of Scripture is to believers and it is such a moving passage that it can and will stir those that don’t know Christ.

Matthew and Mark say that this is the beginning of a situation that had ended. That may sound strange, but Matthew, Mark, and Luke discuss a statement made by Simon Peter eight days previously that allows us to move forward in the body of Christ. Jesus asked his disciples, “Whom do men say that I am?” What is in the rumor mill? Notice that Jesus asked the right folk. He asked people that He knew loved Him. When people love you, they want what’s best for you. He knew they would tell Him the truth.
