“If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9).

There are times when the only prayer God wants to hear from you is, “Please forgive me Lord!”

You became a part of God’s family when you put your faith in Jesus. That cannot be undone. You also became a new person so you do not have to live like you used to live before you were saved. “To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:22-24, 30).

You will always be God’s son or daughter, a child of God, because you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. But if you are a disobedient child, that causes problems within your relationship with God. You are still God’s child, but the relationship is not good if you are living in disobedience by not following God’s Word. In Paul’s language, you have “grieved the Holy Spirit of God” (see Ephesians 4:30).

All the spiritual blessings of the Christian life flow through a healthy relationship with God. If there is some disobedience toward God in your life right now, something He is bringing to your mind even as you read this, then talk to God about it immediately. Stop and ask God’s forgiveness right now for any sin and disobedience in your life.

God doesn’t want you to pray to Him about other things as if your sin and disobedience does not exist. He doesn’t want you to just go through the motions of Christian activities. He wants a healthy loving daily walk with you that is full of His power and presence, however, in order to have that you must confess and turn from your sins and disobedience.

Don’t live through the misery of having distance in your walk with God. Whatever it takes, make things right with Him right now.
