“I will bless the Lord at all times,”

 Laura Ingle ·

Key scripture – “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1).

We often say, “God bless you!” to others without thinking about what it actually means. When God blesses us, He speaks a Word of care and favor over us, “The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.” (Psalm 29:11). And when we bless God, we do the same — we speak a good word about God’s many attributes that benefit (bless) us, “Now I stand on solid ground, and I will publicly praise the Lord.” (Psalm 26:12).

So when the psalmist says, “I will bless the Lord at all times,” he is saying, “I will continually speak of God’s goodness, kindness, generosity, love, patience, joy, peace, forgiveness, righteousness, and justice.” That is, I will continually manifest an attitude of gratitude toward God for who He is and what He has done for me.

You see this type of blessing in Paul’s words, “In everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Don’t just give thanks today, but every day we should give thanks to God and bless His Holy Name for His many gifts of grace to us.

Even on challenging days, we can be grateful for the fact that God is with us, causing all things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28).

“Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His Name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” (Hebrews 13:15-16 NLT).

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I want today and everyday to be a day of thanksgiving, and I know that the way to do that is if I live with an attitude of gratitude toward You. Forgive me for the times I have complained and grumbled about my life and my circumstances. When I start to go down that path, remind me to stop, take those negative thoughts captive, and start counting my blessings one by one. Through Jesus I will offer a continual sacrifice of praise to You, The Lord God Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, for Your love, redemption, and forgiveness. I want to live and react to life with an attitude of gratitude no matter what happens. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
