Instant Access to God
Revelation 1:6
And hath made us kings and priests unto God.
He made us priests. What was the role of the priest? If I had a problem, then I would go and tell the priest and the priest would take my problem to the mercy seat in the temple. He would sprinkle blood on the mercy seat on my behalf because I couldn’t go any farther than the outer court. I wasn’t holy enough to go into the holy place. In between the inner court and me was a veil. And behind the veil was the mercy seat. And I would tell the priest what my needs were. The priest would go sprinkle blood on the mercy seat. He would have to kill a dove or a pigeon or a lamb and use his blood. If you were rich, you had a lamb; if you were poor, you used a turtledove. And they sprinkled blood and then the priest would stand and tell God what I told him. And then I’d have to stand out there and wait on the priest to get an answer from the Lord.
But at Calvary, the veil was split from the top to bottom. Now you can tell by the way the veil was split that man didn’t split it because he would have begun at the bottom and started tearing upward toward the top. But this veil was split from the top to the bottom. I don’t have to wait on a priest to talk for me. He might have an upset stomach that day or be unavailable for a number of reasons. I can go (and I don’t have to go crawling to the mercy seat, saying, “Lord I don’t want to disturb you; Lord I don’t want to upset you. “) boldly to the throne of God. Why? Because He made us priests. We do not need to carry any blood from animals. Hebrews 9:13-14 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
I didn’t make myself a priest. Jesus did the work!
