Jesus lived as a man …
Laura Ingle ·Key scripture -“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.” (Acts 2:22).
Did you know that while Jesus was here on earth he lived as a man so that He could show us that if a person is in right relationship with God, they can do anything.
Jesus Christ said of Himself, “The Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees the Father doing” (John 5:19). In the Greek language that word nothing has a unique meaning – it means NOTHING, just like it does in English! He had NO supernatural capabilities whatsoever! While he is 100 percent God, He chose to live with the same limitations that we would face once we are redeemed. Jesus made that point over and over again.
Jesus became the model for all who embrace the invitation to invade the impossible in His name. He performed miracles, wonders, and signs, as a man who was in right relationship to God – not as God. If He had performed miracles because He was God, then they would be unattainable for us. But since He did them as a man, then we are all responsible to pursue His lifestyle. When you capture this simple truth it changes everything – and makes possible a full restoration of the ministry of Jesus in His Church.
When Jesus healed the sick and delivered the tormented from demons and raised the dead, He did all of that as a man, just like you and me. He was able to do it because of His relationship to God. He had a self imposed restriction to live like a man so that He could show us that we can have the same type of relationship with God that He had. To believe otherwise is to ignore what he said about Himself. It is important to compare Jesus’ humanity to ours so that we can see what we can do.
The distinctions of Jesus’ humanity were:
1. He had no sin to separate Him from the Father.
2. He was completely dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit working through Him.
The distinctions of our humanity are:
1. We are sinners cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
2. The Holy Spirit lives in us.
As a child of God you need to ask yourself – how dependent on the Holy Spirit are you willing to live? Are you willing to live in reverence and fear of The Lord and obey and follow His Word?Do you have that kind of faith? Always knowing that no matter where you are or what you are doing, you are in the presence of God. If so, you can invade the impossible like Jesus did.
Jesus said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” (Luke 9:23-25).
Are you ready to take up your cross today and truly follow Jesus and be blown away by what you can do as a person in right relationship with God.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, Jesus told us that we would do greater miracles than He did while He was here on earth if we have faith and do not doubt. “Jesus responded, “I assure you that if you have faith and don’t doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree. You will even say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the lake.’ And it will happen. If you have faith, you will receive whatever you pray for.”
(Matthew 21:21-22). Father, I want to increase and strengthen my faith. Help me to always remember that I am always in Your presence. Show me how to walk by faith and not by sight. Strengthen my faith so that I can do what Jesus said, “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20). Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit who counsels me, leads me, gives me wisdom, comforts me, strengthens me, helps me understand the Word of God, makes things known to me, and fills me with the fruits of the Spirit, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23). I want to invade the impossible like Jesus did. Give me the ability to obey and follow Your Word, and to listen and follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit in my life. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
