Know how much you’re worth
Laura Ingle ·Key scripture – “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” (Matthew 13:44).
It is unfortunate but a lot of people don’t really know how much they’re worth. When someone has been put down, left out, mistreated, or abandoned, they can battle feelings of worthlessness their whole life no matter how successful they may become. Maybe it’s a feeling you know all too well. Tragically, people who don’t know what they are worth have a tendency to throw themselves away on bad relationships, low goals and self-destructive choices.
But this very day, the person who created you wants to remind you how much you are worth. In Matthew 13:44, the key scripture for today from the Word of God, Jesus is telling one of His parables. He says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” The parable right before this indicates that the field is the world we live in and the man in the field is Jesus. And the buried treasure? That’s you and me.
And if you did not get it the first time, Jesus said “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. (Matthew 13:45-46).
It’s very possible you’ve been buried so deep that you don’t even know you’re a treasure! But Jesus thinks so! No insignificant person has ever been born, and that includes you.
Paul agrees with that! He says in Ephesians 2:10 that “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
So all those people who have treated you like you’re worthless – they don’t know who you really are. You’re God’s workmanship! You were fearfully and wonderfully made by God. “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:13-16).
And here’s the ultimate proof of how much Jesus values you. In the words of both of His parables, “He went out and sold all He had” by being crucified on the cross, so you could belong to Him.
The reason why people feel like they are worth so little is because they are away from the One who gave us our worth. When we have taken over the running of our own lives, the Bible describes us as being “without God” (Ephesians 2:12). All of our sinning has put a wall between us and the God who made us for himself. Have you ever noticed that the middle letter of sin is “I.”
But when Jesus died on the cross, He was giving “all He had” to pay the price for all the wrong things you have ever done and ever will do. So stop for a moment and in your heart and mind, walk up the hill, that the Bible calls Skull Hill, and just stand there quietly at the foot of that cross where the Son of God is pouring out His life for you. Look at Him dying for you! You are not worthless!
You will never know how valuable you are until you give yourself to the One who died to buy you back; which you can do right now, right where you are. Tell Jesus you want to belong to Him, that you believe He is the Son of God, that He died on the cross for Your sins, and arose from the dead on the third day. That He is alive and you want Him to be Your Lord and Savior, and that the rest of your life belongs to Him.
See, Jesus doesn’t want to lose you. That’s why He paid for you with His life. Let this be the day that you finally belong to the One who loves you like you’ve never been loved before.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, when I think about what You and Jesus sacrificed for me and everyone else to be saved, it brings me to tears. I want to love and serve You with that same kind of love. Thank You Father for Your Son, Jesus Christ, He is my Lord and Savior. I pray that anyone who is reading this, who does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, that their mind will be opened so that they understand how much they need Jesus. I believe in Jesus, the Risen One, I can overcome anything by the Power of His Blood. Thank You for the Cross and Easter Sunday, without it we would have no hope!! In the Name of Jesus, The Lamb of God, I pray, Amen.
