Know The Way
Know The Way
John 14:4
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Jesus just assumed that the ones closely following him would at least know the way. But every once in a while there’s somebody in the crowd that misses the statement. Thomas raised his little Baptist finger and said, “Excuse me. Some of us don’t know the way, and how can we know the way? Jesus said, “I’m glad you asked me that because I didn’t want to leave if it was not clear with you.
Then Jesus said, “I AM. Not some way, but I AM the way. A friend of mine that’s also a professor at a theological seminary told me that he spent time in Africa and even lived there for awhile. He decided to tour some of the African soil and so he wouldn’t get lost, one of the chiefs sent a guide to lead him through uncharted territory. They traveled long and far, cutting their way with a bush ax through dense areas. He hollered to the guide, “Say sir, are you sure you know the way?” The guide turned around and looked at him and said, “Yes, I know the way. I’ve traveled this road many times. Do you see these marks on the trees? I made those marks. Do you see the scars on my body? I scarred myself making this trail. I am the way.”
I think if you asked Jesus today, “Jesus are you sure you know the way?” Jesus would respond by saying, “Me, know the way?” He would say, “Do you see the nail prints in my hand? Do you see the scars from a thorny crown on my head? Do you see the spear hole in my side? Do you see the prints in my feet?” He would say, “Do I know the way? I am the way. I am the only way.” In everything in life most times you can find different directions, different routes to get to different places. But when it comes to heaven, there’s only one way. The way to heaven is not a street, freeway, or trail. It is not through the teachings of a prophet of some religion. It is not religious beliefs. The way is a person and that person is Jesus.
