(Matthew 21:22).
Do you know how to pray in faith? Did you know that if you learn this, it will change your prayer life?
Hebrews 11:13 teaches us how to pray in faith, “These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13 ESV).
Before you get to verse 13, it says in Hebrews 11, “By faith Abel… By faith Enoch… By faith Noah… By faith Abraham… By faith Sarah” (Hebrews 11:4,5,7,8,11) then verse 13 says they “all died in faith… but having seen them and greeted them from afar…” We need to do what they did, because they all acted by faith, and prayed by faith.
Notice in verse 13 it says that “having seen them“ and they “greeted them from afar”, the original translation said they “embraced them”. The tense of these two verbs is of an accomplished reality, because when you greet something, when you welcome it, you are acknowledging that it exists, that what has been promised by God is coming towards you. So in the drawing of their final breath, by faith they all saw what had been promised coming, and by faith they already had embraced it. This is awesome, and this will change your prayer life.
We need to have faith like they did so that whatever we have been praying about, we need to see it coming and welcome and greet it from afar. In order to do this, when you pray, learn to say these words:
“Lord, by faith I can see it. Lord, by faith I can see my prodigal child coming home. I can see them sitting with me and talking about the Word of God and praying with me. By faith God, I am looking for that day and longing for that day and I know it will come to pass.”
“Lord, by faith I can see it. I can see my spouse praying with me and reading the Word with me. I can see my spouse treasuring Your Word even though it means nothing to them today. By faith God, I am looking for that day and longing for that day and I know it will come to pass.”
“Lord, by faith I can see it. I can see a different life where we don’t have to struggle from paycheck to paycheck. I can see us having enough money so that we are not living paycheck to paycheck, and we can contribute more to Your Kingdom and help others financially. By faith God, I am looking for that day and longing for that day and I know it will come to pass.”
Faith is “the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen”,(Hebrews 11:1), so if you pray like this, “Lord, by faith I can see it,” then you will be praying in faith, because you are telling God by faith that you can see it happening, then telling Him what you can see happening.
The beginning point of faith is believing in God’s character: He is who He says He is. The end point is believing in God’s promises: He will do what He says in His Word. When we believe that God will fulfill His promises even though we don’t see those promises materializing yet, we demonstrate true faith.
This is a very very very powerful way to pray, so don’t ever let anyone steal this from you and tell you that it will never happen. This is what Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah did and this is what the Word of God affirms.
I want you to stop right now and think about one of your longest standing prayer concerns. Something that you have been praying about for a long time and you are wondering, “Is God ever going to answer that prayer”. “Will God ever come through on this”.
If that is you, learn these words today, “Lord, by faith I can see _______,” and verbalize your prayers around your request, and keep looking into the future with great expectations that your prayer will be answered.
You serve a BIG BIG GOD so start letting your faith be as BIG as God. Pray with faith and watch Him rattle your cage when He shows up and shows out.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I receive Your Word and the truth that faith is so key to everything. I ask that you teach everyone who is reading this prayer that they need to understand the wonderful truth of these words, even though they don’t feel it, even though they cannot point to anything and say there it is, even though they can’t prove it right now, help them understand the fact that the God of the universe has promised good things to his children and based on that, they can know, that they know, that they know it will come to pass in Your time and Your way. I am confident that what I have prayed about is Your plan, and it will come to pass in Your time, in Your way, and according to Your goodness. I have received this reality by faith, I am praying in faith, and I am waiting with great expectation for the answers to my prayers, because I know that they will be answered. Thank You that today could be the day that I see my prayers answered. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
