Key scripture – “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him” (1 John 5:14-15).
Did you know that if you get your prayers in line with God’s purposes that He will respond to those prayers?
This Key scripture is telling us that if we are experiencing this kind of praying, our prayers are actually the response to what God is showing us what His will is in the things we are praying about. That is why it says, “If we ask anything according to His will”, the answer is guaranteed. If that is the case, then what is the most important thing about prayer? Discerning the will of God! “To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue” (Proverbs 16:1).
When we are bringing issues to God, we should not start our prayers immediately with what we want God to do, but rather we should begin our prayers with praising and thanking Him, then spend time on our knees with our Bibles open in front of us talking to God about the issues concerning us, reading His Word, and asking Him to show us what He is doing in our own hearts and in the lives of the people involved. “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:32-36).
If you do this then you will begin to discern what God is up to through His Word, and you can pray with absolute confidence about the problems, and the people in your life.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I want all my prayers to be in line with Your will. I know that in order to do that I need to read and meditate on Your Word so that I know what You think about things. Father, I need help in doing that, please counsel and guide me through the Holy Spirit who will teach me all things and bring to my remembrance all that You have said to me. (John 14:26). Give me the wisdom and knowledge that I need to know You, Your Word, and Your will. As I commit my way to You, and trust in You, I know that You will establish my plans and make my righteous reward shine like the dawn, my justice like the noon day sun. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
