Key scripture- “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans” (Romans 8:26).
Have you ever had a time where because of what you were going through you didn’t know what to say when you were praying ? It is the situation where you say two or three sentences and you don’t know what else to say because you are so upset and all you can do is cry. If that is you, then today’s Key scripture is for you.
The “weakness” that Romans 8:26 is referring to is the weakness of our flesh and the Holy Spirit is here to help us with that, because we do not know the mind of God, and we do not know what God wants, so the Holy Spirit intercedes.
The Spirit intercedes for you when you have a problem that is so complex you don’t even know what to pray. It is the type of situation where you can’t even think of what will make it better, because it seems so far gone and out of your control. Or you have a problem and you don’t have any idea what God could possibly be doing.
When you are stuck or stumped, and you have stopped praying because you don’t know what to pray, I want you to know your prayer has not stopped because the Holy Spirit has continued praying for you. When you are at that point and you don’t know what else to say, the Holy Spirit intercedes for you, therefore, your silence is actually good because the Spirit is praying for you.
When you don’t know what to say, just be silent, because your prayer time is not over because the Holy Spirit continues praying for you in the will of God. That is absolutely amazing and wonderful for each and everyone of us.The Holy Spirit is praying in groanings too deep for words and this is what happens for every Christian when the Holy Spirit is interceding.
The passage also tells us what the groanings are where it says, “but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans” based on the will of God. So if you have ever been in that place where you are on your knees crying out to God, “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to pray”, and then you pause and you don’t say anything else, the praying is still going on even though you are saying nothing, because the Holy Spirit is saying what you need to say and presenting it to the Lord for you.
Isn’t it fabulous that our prayer life is not dependent upon our ability to pray or to think of things that we need to say to God. Isn’t it great that they are not up there in Heaven saying, “If she would just ask for it, we would give it to her. All we need is for him to say it, then we would do it.”
If you have a problem, and you don’t know what else to say or do about it, I want you to get on your knees and bow your head and go to that particular problem that is on your mind right now, and just stop and let the Holy Spirit pray for you with regard to that problem that is burdening you so bad.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit, thank You that He lives in me, that He knows what I need even when I don’t know, and that He prays for me. Thank you for all the times that the Holy Spirit has prayed for me and I had no idea that He even did it. Thank you Spirit of God for all the times that I thought I was all alone and all my needs were hidden from God, but I wasn’t because You were praying for me at that very moment. How wonderful that the Holy Spirit prays for me when I don’t know what to pray for, and that Jesus is interceding for me before the throne of God. It is so comforting to know that The Holy Spirit surrounds me, supports me, helps me, and prays for me as a Child of God. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
