LET GO AND LET GOD

Weekly Theme: From the old life to the new – 2nd post
Hebrews 4:9-11
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.”
This Hebrews verse comes from the context that alludes to the Israelites coming to rest in the land of Canaan after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. It took them that long to finally learn to trust God through the trials they experienced instead of taking things into their own hands and insisting on having their own way.
The Lord in His love allows us to go through trials to condition us to let go and let God. When we finally do cease from our own works and learn to wait patiently on the Lord, we see God’s amazing hand at work. Then we wonder why it took us so long to learn to rest in God.
This learning to let go and let God brings us to the point of letting the old man (or old woman) come to a complete death in being crucified with Christ so that we live the resurrected life with Jesus. This is being sanctified completely (See 1 Thessalonians 5:23).
God told Moses on Mt. Sinai, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14) but it took the Israelites 40 years to come to that rest. How long will it take you to let go and let God?
Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
