Abundant life is about living our lives through God. We hear about a person who tries to live his life through another human. We know that is unhealthy because it causes him to lose his sense of identity. But to lose ourselves and our future in God is to find our true identity. We were created in the image of God and God knows our future, so to lose ourselves in the Lord is to identify with the person our Maker designed us to be. To live a self-centered life is to gravel in smallness. To live for God is to live large.

When we die to our personal ambitions and purposes to yield wholeheartedly to God, the Holy Spirit fills us with Godly love. This causes us to love what God loves and hate what he hates. (see Romans 5 & 6). This gives us a proper sense of values so that our lives become large and meaningful. We no longer live just for this present world but live with eternity’s values in view.
