Loving God

Key scripture – “Because he loves me,” says the LORD,”I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.” (Psalm 91:14-15)

Mercy, protection, blessing—these are the concrete promises, the gifts that belong to everyone who loves God’s name. If you love His name, God will always hear your prayers. He will help you find a way out of trouble. He will grant mercy enough for your failings.

Loving God’s name means upholding His reputation by reflecting His character, by trusting Him, and by praying in a way that acknowledges His nature—that He is full of power, love, goodness, and faithfulness. God’s name holds so many blessings for the faithful that it’s no wonder the psalmist exhorts us to rejoice in God’s name all day long.

“Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.” (Psalm 89:15-18).

Jesus prayed that the Father would glorify His name through Him. God also promised to do whatever we ask in Jesus’ name. Philippians 2:9-10 affirms that God has exalted Jesus and given Him “the name that is above every name.”

We need to seek to glorify God’s name in all we do, say, and think. We also need to stop taking credit for things that God has done in our life, because that robs God of His due glory. If we do this, He will surely humble us because He is opposed to those that are prideful. “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6). When God spoke through Isaiah the prophet, He made it real clear the He would not share His glory with anyone when He said “I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other” (Isaiah 42:8).

We should always pray for God to be glorified because God is worthy to be glorified, honored, and praised. So today, seek to glorify God’s name in all you do, say, and think.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I love Your name and I want to uphold and glorify Your name in my words, action and thoughts. Father You are:
Elohim – The Creator, Mighty, Strong. The God who said “Let there be”.
Yahweh – I Am Who I Am. The Covenant keeping God. The God who makes promises and does not back away from it. The God I can depend on.
El Shaddai – the “Lord God Almighty.”. The God who does whatever he wants to do. The God who is more than enough.
Abba- Father
Jehovah Shalom – The Lord our peace.
Jehovah Rapha – The Lord who heals.
Jehovah Jeriah – The Lord will provide.
Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our banner.
Jehovah M’Kaddesh – The Lord who sanctifies, makes holy.
Jehovah Rohi – The Lord our shepherd.
Jehovah Shammah – The Lord is there.
Jehovah Tsidkenu – The Lord our Righteousness.
Father, Your Name means that You are; faithful, forgiving, loving, kind, patient, trustworthy, good, always present, merciful, a shepherd, refuge, strong hightower, provider and full of grace. Like Jesus, I want You to glorify Your Name through me. Father, “Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name.” (Psalm 119:132). In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
