Make A Place To Meet God

Luke 1:8

And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course.

While Zacharias exchanged the priests office. There were so many priests on the scene that often a priest didn’t get a chance to serve in the temple except but once in a life time. According to the custom of the priests office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. It was time now for this Zacharias to go into the temple and offer incense. In other words, while he was praying he would send up this incense and it would envelope itself to go into the nostrils of God. It was their way of offering prayer to God.

What a wonderful privilege we have now to be able to pray. We don’t have to wait on the priest to give us the go ahead, but we can bow anywhere at anytime and talk to God whenever we get ready. There was a time that a person was required to go to the priest with his problems. Then the priest would go in to the Holy of Holies to offer up the prayer and wait on God to answer him and he would come back and tell you what God said. But at Calvary the veil was split from the top to bottom allowing us to go directly to the mercy seat ourselves and tell God what we need. You can go boldly to the throne of God. No one else has to do your praying for you. God hears and answers your prayer.

Notice Zacharias was on the right hand side of the altar. It is believed that God spent his time on the right hand side of the altar. An angel of the Lord appeared and stood on the right side of the altar of incense. God made many promises to Zacharias and Elisabeth that day.

Zacharias was going where God was. You ought to keep a spot in your house where you can visit the Lord. People have bars in their houses and all kinds of other stuff. If God is important, make some knee bowing room where you go on daily basis and bow down and talk to God there.
