Pride then Disgrace

 Laura Ingle
Key scripture – “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.” ( Proverbs 11:2).

When someone is full of pride, it tends to push us away. They think they can handle things themselves, so we back off and let them try.

Do you know God does the same thing with us?

Scripture after scripture tells us that God is repulsed by pride. When He backs off and let’s us try things on our own, we’re in real big trouble. But God is drawn to humility. In Isaiah 57:15 it says, “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” God chooses to exalt the humble. He promises to live in intimate fellowship with them. Those with humble hearts are candidates for a revival by God.

Is there a situation you just don’t know how to handle? Use this as an opportunity to humble yourself before God, admit your need to Him and how much you need Him, and rely on His help. God will answer your prayer at the proper time and in His way so you must be patient while you wait for Him. “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14).

While you are waiting on God be full of peace and joy don’t walk around grumbling and complaining with a sad face.

Ephesians 3:20 teaches us that “God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond all we could dare to hope, ask, or think, according to His great power that is at work in us.” Remember, our God is a BIG God. He created the heavens and the earth. He is bigger than our problems or circumstances so lets start acting like it and live a life full of peace and joy.

“The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!” (Psalm 34:17-20 NLT).

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, when I start to panic over a problem help me to remember how Big, Great and Awesome You are, that absolutely nothing is impossible with You, and that You are “The Lord who merely spoke, and the heavens were created. You breathed the Word, and all the stars were born. You assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.” (Psalm 33:6-9 NLT). I know that I serve a BIG, GOOD, LOVING, FAITHFUL GOD. Forgive me for my pride, and teach me how to humble myself before You and to wait patiently for You, and while I wait, to be full of peace and joy not grumbling and complaining. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
