Reliable In Small Matters
Luke 16:10
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Even though Joseph was in one difficult predicament after another, he was faithful no matter where you found him. He was faithful as a son to his father Jacob. I often hear about people trying to get high positions who have not been faithful in low spots. Whenever Jacob said to Joseph, “Go to the fields.” he went. Or, “Go feed your brothers.” he went. When he became a slave, he continued to show faithfulness. Because he was so faithful in Potiphar’s house, Potiphar promoted him. You see if you’re faithful in low spots, God has a higher spot for you. Joseph was faithful to God when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. But he said, “If I have to make a choice between you and God, I’ve already decided to follow the Lord.” So if you get caught in a predicament and nobody else is around, remember God is still looking. Be faithful to God.
As a sufferer, Joseph was faithful to patience. You see some of us can handle patience if nothing wrong is happening. Oh I’m patient as long as my icebox is full. As long as I have a check coming in every Friday, I’m patient; I can handle life. But as soon as it looks like it’s getting a little dark, we’re ready to throw up our hands and give it up. We need to have some patience, and the Lord takes us through things just to give us patience. Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
Observe the way God prepares to elevate Joseph. To us, it made no sense for Joseph’s brothers to beat him up and put him in the pit or for the Ishmaelites to buy him as a slave. It made no sense for him to go to Potiphar’s house and be mistreated again by his wife. It made no sense for Potiphar to respond to a lying woman and have this innocent boy placed in jail. Still, God’s plan unfolds.
