Seek The Kingdom
Matthew 6:9-10
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our father which art in heaven, Hallowed he thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
The disciples came to Jesus saying, “Master teach us to pray as
John also taught his disciples.” Jesus, being an effective teacher and knowing the type of people that He had in His audience, wanted to make sure the lesson was understandable. So He made this prayer in letter-like form. It was addressed to our Father. The actual address where the letter was sent was “which art in heaven.” Then there were several requests made in this Letter Prayer. First was that the kingdom would come; second, that the will would be done; and third that we would receive daily bread. The seal of the Letter Prayer was “for thine is the kingdom.” The day that it was sent was “this day.” The stamp that He used on the Letter Prayer was “Amen.” The Pattern Prayer was simple enough for anyone to understand.
This Model Prayer is vertical, but it is also horizontal. It goes up to God, but it also goes out to our brother by saying “Our Father.” Jesus says, “Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” He says, I want you to spotlight – put my Name on display, and whatever you do, if you’re going to be successful, you must do it in my Name. His name is important. “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done.” Too many of us actually believe that it’s our kingdom. We act like it’s ours because we do what we want to do, say what we want to say and show up when we want to show up. But it’s the Lord’s kingdom. It is not about us. Sometimes we worry about issues that are none of our business, walking the floor at night over matters we have nothing to do with. God loves His kingdom so He’s not going to let His kingdom go down. Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these things will be added unto you.” Seek His kingdom!
