Shake Your World

Revelation 1:9

John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

John begins by telling the reader something about who he is and his circumstance. He identifies himself as a witness for Jesus, a brother and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ. John was in exile because of the gospel. When was the last time you got in trouble because of the gospel? When was the last time you got in trouble on the job just because of the word of God? When was the last time you got in trouble at your house with the word of God. Most of us, if we are around folk that we don’t think want us to be in the word, will back off. We don’t want to disturb anybody. God called us to disturb folk. God called us to shake other folks’ worlds when they don’t want to learn the word of God; you are to be a living epistle in the midst of them. Let your light so shine before men that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

Your spiritual life ought to be first of all private, then public, and then purposeful. It doesn’t mean that you need to leave your job because nobody there is saved. Light shines better in dark places. Let your light shine while on your job. Sooner or later somebody will recognize that you have been with the Lord and spent time in His presence.

Be thankful for the things you’re going through because God is preparing you for something better. You haven’t always had the ability to accomplish what you can accomplish now. God has done many things in you. We ought to look back and thank God for every negative situation in our life. Our spiritual muscles must get in shape so we can leap over difficult situations. We will be able to look back and see the growth God brought in our lives during those times He allowed our world to be shaken.
