Sheltered From Sin

1 John 2:26

These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

Concerning them that seduce you. God wants to warn you and protect you from Satan and his devices. One of the ways Satan gets to us is by us not knowing his trickery and his devices. You see the devil is a shrewd operator; you might think he’s coming one way today but he shows up another way. If you think the devil just uses one trick, you’re sadly mistaken. That devil has got a bag of tricks that he uses any which way he can to distract you and to keep you from focusing on the true and living God. So the second reason He wrote this book is for your protection.

The third reason He gave us this book is for your prevention. He says in 1 John 2:1, My little children, these things I write unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He wants you to be protected from sin. Sometimes folk commit sin simply because they are reminded that they are sinners. It is like continually telling a child how worthless they are. The child would do everything in their power to prove what you say. Well I may as will get into every thing because I have already been told, “I ain’t nothing.” If you tell your child, “You’re dumb.” he says, “Well ain’t no need of me trying to study; they already told me I’m dumb.”

If you go to an alcoholic and say, “Man, you’re an alcoholic.” they’ll drink more because they have been reminded of what they are. But John said, “Look even though you are sinning, I want you to know that you have an advocate. Everywhere you go you have one with you. Christ is walking with you. If you mess up, He is your attorney. He goes in and pleads your case for you. Your past, present, and future sins are already taken care of. He already paid the price for you to be free of sin.
