Surviving The Cyclone
Mark 4:38
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
The storm was raging, sending water into the ship, but Jesus was in the hinder part of the ship asleep on a pillow. Notice how Jesus handles storms. When we’re in a storm we may prance the floor or smoke nasty cigarettes; some try to drown their troubles in the liquor bottle; others sit and eat themselves to death and watch crazy movies on television; still others call and worry other folk half to death. Some people look for tranquilizers and nerve pills. But Jesus was sleeping during the storm. How can a person be that calm? Psalm 121, speaking of God the Father, says, He neither slumbers, nor does he sleep. When you have a good person watching over you; you don’t have to stay awake since He’s awake.
The disciples came to Jesus, and said, “Master do you care? I wonder if you have ever asked that question. Master, do you care if we perish? Lord do you know what I’m going through? I can hear the Lord say, I care enough for you to endure being whipped and gouged and have spikes driven through my feet and to die for your sins. And if he loves us enough to die for us, he loves us enough to give us all things to enjoy.
The Lord has already fixed it and prepared it for us. He says if you’re going through something, I knew you were going to go through it, that’s why I left my word behind. That’s why you ought to always be familiar with the word of God. Sometimes you’re going to need him and you can’t catch up with pastor. Sometimes you’re going to need him and your girlfriend won’t be on the other end. Sometimes you’re going to need him and you can’t get in touch with a deacon. So you will need to have the word in your heart. Just a short walk through the word and you’ll feel better.
