Sweeter than honey

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture – “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).

If you love Jesus then you should want to get to know Him more and more, and in order to do that, you should soak your life with the Word of God. Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me.” (John 5:39). He was saying these words to people who searched the Scriptures for the wrong reasons. But for those of us who have a living relationship with Jesus, those words of His draw us to search the Scriptures for the right reason! To get to know Him and have a personal relationship with Him that is growing day by day.

If you have a relationship with another person, and you want to get to know them better, you talk to them, you spend time with them, you listen carefully to what they share with you about themselves, and you focus on them. It is the same with your walk with God. God is speaking to you through His Word; but as long as your Bible is closed, you will not get to know God and you will miss out on so much of what God wants to teach you and what He wants to say and do in your life.

If you approach the Bible academically, it will be dry, but if you approach it with an open heart, listening for the voice of God in your heart, it will be sweeter than honey to your mouth. “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore, I hate every wrong path.” (Psalm 119:103-104).

No one can taste it for you. You must open your Bible and savor its sweetness for yourself. “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” (Psalm 34:8).

Starting today, open your Bible and read it, and start tasting and seeing how Good God is.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, Your Word is so sweet to me. It refreshes and strengthens me. I proclaim what David said about Your Word; “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10). Father, I have a future and a hope because I have found wisdom and righteousness in Your Word. Teach me through Your Word how to walk upright and blameless. In Your Word there is hope for me, and my hope will not be cut off. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
