Test His Promises

Key scripture – “Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.” (Psalm 119:140).

Did you know that God wants us to test His promises?

I love the fact that God’s promises are well tested through out history and every time I test them they always prove true. The fact that God wants us to test His promise is just one of the many ways that He is not like us because when we make a promise, we will honor our promise, but we really don’t want them to be tested. For example, if you tell someone that you will pay their rent if they lose their job, you are willing to keep your promise, but you are hoping you don’t have to keep it. When people take wedding vows they say for better or worse, but they are hoping for better; for richer for poorer, but they are hoping for richer; in sickness and in health, but they are hoping for health. We all will live up to the other part of the promise but we really want; better, richer, and healthy.

God is not like that, He makes a promise and He wants us to test His promise. God wants it to come to the place where you have to lean on him. You have to test His promise and put all your weight on it. He wants you to be where you have to rest in His promises, and claim them, and hold them, and treasure them in your heart. God allows things in your life so that you will have to test His promises and put all your weight on them. God will make sure that every single child of God will test His promises.

Have you ever made a promise you did not keep? We all have, but God has never done that and He will never do that. In Joshua 21:45 it says that not one promise which the Lord made failed. “Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” (ESV). God made sure that every promise got tested and everything He said proved to be true.

God also makes sure that every single syllable He speaks comes to pass. You will never be able to say to God, “Well that wasn’t quite like what you said.” Everything, and He means everything, He says comes to pass. “Blessed be the Lord who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.” (1 Kings 8:56).

Since we are Christians, we are God’s children and we are all heirs to the promises. The promises in the Bible are for you and me. “So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” (Hebrews 6:17-18).

You might say, these promises are really awesome but how will I be able to know that God’s Word is true. This is how, if you obey, you get blessed, then your life is proof of the promises. If you disobey you’re going to get judged and your life is proof of the judgments. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20a).

God tells us, if we believe and obey the promises, we get blessed, if we disobey, we get judgment. “For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.” (Isaiah 48:11).

No matter what is going on in your life you need to always remember that if God was not going to use it for your good it would not have happened. Everything that happens in your life He had to sign off on it. It all flows through His fingers. If He had wanted to stop it He would’ve closed His hand and it would not have passed thru. If God let it happen in your life then He is going to use it for your good and His glory.

That is an incredible promise because when you look at the stuff that is happening in your life, you are probably saying, “Why is this happening,” and you start thinking “this is out-of-control, this is awful.” But all we need to remember is that God is in control and He is going to use everything for your good and His glory. Remember, God promised He would do that and He never ever lies and He never goes back on His Word. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28).

God is soooo faithful!! I want you to test His promises, but don’t just dip your toe in the water take a running jump into the deep end of the pool of promises, He is waiting there for you with open arms!

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, thank you that your Word is true and that Your promises are always true. Father, thank You that You want me to test Your promises in all of the problems and all circumstances in my life. Your promises are true and they will never fail because You made them and Your name will never be profaned by someone being able to say, “I know one time when God’s promise was not true.” That has never ever happened. When I start to doubt, I need to ask myself, “Why would God after thousands and thousands of years not honor all of His promises in my life? Why would He start doing that now?” When I say it like that, I can see how silly it sounds. God always, always, always honors and fulfills every promise in His Word. God will always be true to His Word. It is the absolute truth. Father, I cling to Your promises, lean on them, rest in them, and put all of my weight on them. Thank You for being my dwelling place and my shelter. Thank You so much for Jesus, Who is the Living Word and the best promise of all. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:1-2). In the Name of Jesus, the most Precious Promise, I pray, Amen.
