The Other Side Of Midnight

Acts 16:29-30

He called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

It was the midnight hour, a difficult time. Paul and Silas moved from pain to praise and God sent an earthquake to set them free. But after praises there was a panic in the jail. The jailor had a sword ready to take his own life. If you pray right your enemies will panic. They don’t know how to handle the power of prayer. When you love the Lord, and when you’ve been picked out, you don’t have to run from your enemies. You don’t have to beat the devil running. Stand still and the devil will flee from you.

There was pain, there was praise, there was a panic, and then there was a plea from the man who was to keep them jailed. Won’t the Lord take your enemies and make them a footstool? He said, “Sirs, what must I do?” That’s a good question, one that all of us ask occasionally. When you’re flat broke and bills keep coming in, you say, “What must I do? When your son or daughter has gone astray, you want to know, “What must I do?” When your spirit is low, and you can’t feel His presence, you ask yourself, “What must I do? Watch the answer. Paul said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Your answer is trusting in the Lord.

When it’s dark in your room, when your bank account is closed, and when problems keep stacking up, trust in the Lord. He may not answer the way you think He will, but he will show up just in the nick of time. Looks like He’s not going to come, but He’s on the way. The more you trust, the stronger you get and the better you’ll feel. How many times have you been in situations and had just enough strength to make it through? If it had happened yesterday, you would have taken your own life, but God gave you enough strength to make it. Turmoil and disappointment will give way to joy. Make it to the other side of midnight!
