The Reward Of Faithfulness

Daniel 6:3

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

At the age of sixteen, Daniel was forced to sit at the Kings table; however Daniel refused to eat the King’s meat. Daniel’s parents had taught him the foods to eat for good health and a sound mind. Daniel wanted vegetables and water instead of meat and wine. He did not want the meat that had been offered to idols. Daniel convinced the king to allow him to eat his own way and to evaluate his condition in ten days. In ten days, Daniel looked better than the king’s young men. Later Daniel and his friends faced another test when the King decided that everybody in the camp had to bow to an image. Daniel was one that refused to bow along with with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, but he was able to live through it. Daniel had the right stuff. Isn’t it amazing how you can be in a strange position but when you take a stand for God, He will see you through? You don’t have to do wrong because everybody else is doing wrong. You can take a stand if you have to stand by yourself. God will bring you out more than a conqueror.

Daniel was also called on during the reign of King Belshazzar who used holy vessels during a drunken party. He poured wine into one of the holy vessels and attempted to give a toast to a false god. The same hour there came forth the finger of a man’s hand and wrote on the wall. Of course, none of his sooth sayers, philosophers, or magicians could read the writing because God wrote it. And when God writes something, his children are the ones that do the interpreting. So they sent for Daniel who told the king that God had weighed the king in the balance and he had been found wanting. That very night the king died. Daniel did not know how the king would respond, but Daniel spoke the word of the Lord. This was his way of life.
