The Spirit

Key scripture – “[God] made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life”(2 Corinthians 3:6).

Pastor Tony Evans says that, The Holy Spirit within us makes life real; life comes alive. When we have accepted Jesus as our Savior and Redeemer, life is no longer just theology. It’s ok to have theology in our heads, just as long as it becomes real in our lives, and the way it does that is when we grow closer to God through the Holy Spirit.

When the Holy Spirit takes over our lives, we begin to grow. The Holy Spirit becomes our power source behind this growth so that eventually what He has done in us will become evident by the kind of fruit that we produce in our lives.

“The deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:19-23).

The Holy Spirit is the divine enabler who produces growth in us. Every time we try to grow independently of God, we are working against Him. A lot of us spend much of our time shutting God out because we are trying to produce the fruits of the Spirit on our own. However, God does not need our help to grow the fruits of the Spirit in us.

Starting today, let the Holy Spirit take over and be in charge of your spiritual growth, and if you do, He will produce remarkable fruit in you. So get out of His way and let Him do His work.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I want to be on oak of righteousness that produces the fruits of the Spirit so that I bring glory to Your Name and help others taste and see that You are soooooo GOOD. I know that I cannot produce the fruits of the Spirit, but the Holy Spirit, who lives in me can. Father, I know my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and I want to treat it as such. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). I give myself to You as a living sacrifice. I want to be completely under the control of the Holy Spirit. I want the Holy Spirit to plant and grow Your righteousness in me so that I am a display of Your glory and righteousness. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.Laura Ingle
