The Unseen Power
Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to he an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.
Paul was called; he was given authority to do what he did. A police officer never says, “I say” He says, “The law says it.” Because all he’s really doing is wearing a uniform and a badge. He is under the authority of the person who sent him. If Sears comes by and fixes your washing machine and they don’t fix it right, you don’t get mad at the service person; you call the company. So when Jesus sends out somebody, don’t get upset with the person He sent out. You need to talk it over with the one that did the sending.
Paul was called to be an apostle. There were thirteen original apostles. An apostle is an eyewitness of Jesus Christ. Paul said he was an apostle born out of due time. His calling came later. In other words he is saying he didn’t deserve to be called. All of us can witness to that since none of us deserved to be called. Our righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God. Paul was called to be an apostle separated or set aside unto the gospel of God. The Greek word for gospel is euaggelion meaning good news. Paul said he was a good news carrier. We love to see people who have good things to say. Oh what a joy it would be in life if we could find a few good news carriers.
The gospel has power to affect every part of humanity. Not only does it deal with you spiritually, the gospel also has an effect upon you physically. I’ve seen the gospel get hold of people and change their whole expression. People come in mad but when the gospel gets through with them, they leave glad. A person with a hung down head will leave with their head up. I’ve seen people who did nothing but sit around; but once they heard the gospel they were eager to go and make a difference in their own personal lives. There is power in the person that sent you out to carry the gospel. The authority of Jesus produces the power in the gospel.
