Then Jesus said,

Key scripture- “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest’” (Matthew 11:28 NLT).

How much baggage are you dragging through life?

I don’t mean your Samsonite luggage or a backpack, but the heavy stuff of life, the emotions, guilt, shame, issues from the past that you don’t know what to do with, so you push them deep down inside of you.

If you have that kind of baggage then this beautiful invitation from Jesus is for you.

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest’” (Matthew 11:28).

Jesus doesn’t say, “Come all who are perfect” or “Come all who’ve made the best choices in life” or “Come all who have never sinned” or “Come all who have never sinned”. Instead, Jesus invites the tired, the weary, the exhausted, the weighted down, the ones who have made bad decisions, and the worn-out to come to Him … and He promises us rest.

That’s an amazing exchange. We get to drop our baggage, no matter how heavy and stained and worn out it is, at the feet of Jesus, and He gives us more than mere rest, He gives us relief, blessed quietness, joy, peace, and He rejuvenates us.

I don’t know how much baggage you’re dragging with you today, but I want you to know you don’t have to carry it for one more minute. Jesus is right there waiting with arms open wide to receive you and take all your burdens from you. Stop right now and give Jesus your baggage, give Him all of it!

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, thank You for this beautiful invitation to give You all of the heavy baggage I’ve been carrying around. I am tired and worn out from carrying this shame and guilt and sin. I come to You, Jesus, and I know through You I will be forgiven and restored. You will show me how to take a real rest. As I walk with You, and keep company with You, I will learn the unforced rhythms of grace, and how to live freely and lightly. You alone are my refuge, my place of safety, You are my God and I trust You completely. I get on my knees before You and I choose right now, by faith, to lay it all down at Your feet and take up Jesus’ yoke, which is easy, comfortable, gracious and pleasant. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
