This is what the Lord says:

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture- “This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you build me a temple as good as that? Could you build me such a resting place? My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken! “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word” (Isaiah 66:1-2).

Did you know that if you are a believer you are always under the canopy of God’s grace and love? Nothing you do can change that. At the same time, your behavior and heart condition do determine whether you receive the fullness of His blessings and favor. Pastor, Charles Stanley shows us that today’s passage teaches us how to experience the Father’s favor.

First, He desires that we have a contrite heart and a humble spirit (Ps. 51:17). For that to be the case, all aspects of our lives must be surrendered to Jesus. You might be thinking, “Does that really mean I have to release everything into His hands, including my dreams, my job, my desires, and even the people who are in my life?” Yes, because anything we do not give over to His authority is evidence of pride, the exact opposite of what our Father wants in His children. Remember that “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Lack of submission proves that we think our way is better than His plan.

Second, God tells us to tremble at His Word (Isa. 66:2). Scripture, which is, the unfolding revelation of Jesus Himself, is living and powerful to teach and transform us. Think about how you treat this treasure. Do you devote time each day to know what the Bible says and how to apply its principles? Do you hunger for more of the Word in your life so that you can know its Author better? One measure of your reverence is obedience, because in order to honor the Lord, we must obey Him. “You must always act in the fear of the Lord, with faithfulness and an undivided heart” (2 Chronicles 19:9).

We all desire God’s favor, but are you living in a manner that positions you to receive His full blessings? Prayerfully consider whether you have submitted all areas of your life—from finances and health to relationships and work habits—to Jesus Christ. Recognize His authority in all things, and revere His Word.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I revere You and I stand in awe of You. I know that fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom, and that humility precedes honor, and knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. (Proverbs 9:10). You watch over those who fear You, those who rely on Your unfailing love. I put my hope in You, You are my help and my shield. You rescue me. In You my heart rejoices. I trust Your Holy Name. Let your unfailing love surround me, Lord, for my hope is in You alone. (Psalm 33:8,18-22). Give me the wisdom to be faithful to Your covenant, and to obey Your commandments. Praise the Lord. Let all that I am praise the Lord. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
