Today Is The Day
2 Corinthians 6:2
…Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
I’ve, been here on planet earth for over half a century. I have observed people daily. Many people are serious about making a living. Most parents tell their children, “You have to study to make sure that you’re smart so you can get a good education. Then you can get a good job and make a living for yourselves.” And we focus on getting, getting, getting instead of being. I’ve known people to work hard day and night, trying to get ahead, taking no time for family or friends—living on the edge, half crazy trying to make a living. I say to them many times, “Well what about church?” They say, “Reverend, I don’t have time for church, I’m too busy making a living. They are making a living, but failing to make a life.
One day this life will end. It will be over. The steady march of the chariot wheels is on its way to our address even now. I don’t know when, but sooner or later it will come. We can’t determine our future or how long we are going to live by what we eat, what we drink, or how we exercise, because the man that wrote the book on jogging, died jogging. Some of the healthiest people I know are shot down with guns or killed in automobile accidents. They have a massive heart attack or a stroke. There is no guarantee because we are healthy that we will live forever.
Therefore, we need to make sure that after this life is over, we’re going to the right place. Now I must remind you that there are two destinations we will end up at. We will either go to hell or to heaven. And you won’t go in a little department and wait six months or ten years or twenty years for God to change his mind. No, he gives us ample time while we’re on planet earth to prepare for the next life. God gives us time to get our houses in order, so we in turn can help someone else. The time to do that is now.
