Turning Aside

Exodus 3:3

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

The bush didn’t burn; it had sticking power. It did not weaken under pressure. It was really symbolic of the children of Israel. In spite of all the stuff they had gone through, they were still making it. That’s the way it is with God’s people; they can take so much. The average person might call it quits. But in spite of the pressure, God’s child can go right on through. Listen to Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” I keep getting strength every day. The bush did not burn it up. It’s similar to the word of God. We’ve had snoopers, snappers and snipers from everywhere trying to destroy the Bible, trying to change the language, trying to destroy it. But in spite of all the negative things that have happened, the Word still stands. God says before one jot or tittle of His word shall fall, heaven and earth will pass away. God is a consuming fire, Himself. God will never burn up.

Moses says, “I will now turn aside.” I could expound upon this one statement for quite some time, because most of us are too busy to turn aside. We see God talking but we won’t listen. God is speaking to us everyday, but we won’t turn aside. We’re too busy doing our own thing. We are still trying to sow our wild oats, and the Lord is trying to get our attention. Notice that God didn’t talk to Moses until he first got Moses’ attention. Some people say. “I read the Bible and don’t get any understanding.” It is because they haven’t turned aside yet. When you turn aside, God is ready to speak. You can read His book from cover to cover and never understand a thing you are reading until you first turn aside because it is God that opens your understanding. We must turn aside and say, “Speak Lord, thy servant is listening.” Moses stopped and turned aside.
