When Trouble Comes
Psalm 86:1
Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.
Bow down thine ear, 0 Lord. Obviously, this writer wanted God’s attention. There comes a time in your life when you want the attention of God. Now you may not want it all the time, but when you are in trouble you want to get the ear of God. There are some situations that you can find yourself in where nobody can help you but God. Some things you can talk your way out of, some things you can pay your way out of, and some things you can play your way out of. But some things you’ll have to pray your way out of. When you learn how to talk to God, He will bring you through any and every situation.
Hear me. The writer was not praying for a congregation. He was not praying for his household. He said, “Look, I’m in this situation and I need you to hear me. I’ve got a problem I need you to solve. I’ve got a situation that can’t nobody get me out but you. I know you can do it so God I’m calling on you.” One of the greatest privileges any person can have being able to talk to our Heavenly Father.
I’m humbled by being able to pick up the phone and call the mayor of the city and have a conversation with him. I’m humbled by that. To be able to call the governor of the state means much to me. How special to be invited to a dinner given by the President. That’s great, but nothing compares to being able to have a conversation with God. Everyone else is limited. There are things they can do and there are some things they can’t do. A mayor is only mayor in one city. When he is in another area, he’s a visitor. The governor is the head of one state. Even neighboring states are not part of his territory The power of the President is largely limited to the United States. And you know we’ve got some trouble on the other side of the water. We need to have somebody that can handle stuff across the river.
