Where Is The Lamb?
Genesis 22:7
And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham had taught his son how to offer a sacrifice. Isaac knew the wood was ready; the fire was ready, and the knife was there. But there was a missing ingredient. you’ve got a missing lamb. I’m afraid we’ve grown up in a society now that we can worship in a whole worship service and never discover that the lamb is missing. The fire is there. The fire of excitement is in the place. We’re jumping and shouting and speaking in tongues and running down the aisles. We’ve got the fire. The ritual of the wood is always present. In other words, let this house keep silent, the Lord is getting ready to speak. We’ve got the ritual down right, but where is the lamb? We have theological seminaries all over the country teaching about the fire and the wood, but they neglect to mention the lamb. You can stay in a whole worship service and the name of Jesus is never mentioned. But you cannot survive without knowing the lamb. Make sure you know the lamb.
Listen to Abraham’s answer in verse eight. My son, God will provide himself a lamb. Abraham was saying, “First off, son, don’t worry; this job is not mine. This job belongs to our heavenly Father. He is the one that will provide a lamb.” And secondly he was saying that God himself is a lamb provider. And thirdly, what God and Abraham are really saying is that God is the lamb. God will provide himself because God needs the lamb to do what the lamb can do. Because the only way we can be saved is that the lamb has to die, and that’s what Jesus is. Jesus is really God. Jesus is God, reincarnated. Abraham did not know exactly how, but he trusted God to provide the lamb.
