Who am I serving?

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture – “Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness” (Romans 6:13-18).

Have you ever looked at your life and asked yourself, “Who am I serving, God or some sin in my life?”

Sin comes in many different flavors, but the final analysis is, sin is sin no matter how we try to justify it. Some examples are: stealing, anger, worry, lying, cussing, using God’s name in vain, lust, greed, complaining and grumbling, not controlling our tongue, gossiping, unforgiveness, hate, not loving others as you love yourself, drunkenness, pride, sex, and fear.

In Romans 6:13-18, the apostle Paul is telling you and me that we need to wake up and stop sinning. So let’s start on a new path today and yield ourselves to God completely and be obedient to him. I am going to pray the following prayer to God for the next 30 days and wait and watch how He awakens a new love for righteousness in me and shows me what I need to get rid of in my life.

Will you join me? If so, pray this prayer: “Our Father in Heaven, show me more of Your Holiness and show me more of my sinfulness. Help me to hate sin and love righteousness as You do. Remove all iniquity from my heart. Cleanse me of all unrighteousness and make me holy as You are Holy. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.”

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I know that if I choose to sin I choose to suffer and the reason why You tell us in Your Word not to do something is so we do not hurt ourselves. Father, cleanse me of all iniquity because; I want to live in righteousness, I want to walk in righteousness, I want to speak with righteousness, I want to see with righteousness, I want to hear with righteousness, I want to act with righteousness, i want to respond with righteousness. I want to be a righteous person. Father, I pray that You show me more of your holiness and show me more of my sinfulness. Help me to hate sin and love righteousness as You do. Remove all iniquity from my heart. Cleanse me of all unrighteousness and make me holy as You are Holy. I give thanks to You because of Your Righteousness. The Heavens proclaim Your Righteousness for You are a God of justice. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
