Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD?
Laura Ingle Key scripture – “Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?” (Psalm 15:1).
Do you know what “credentials” God has provided for us to come into His presence?
David told us in this Psalm, “Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?” (Psalm 15:1). According to David in Psalm 15, only the blameless and the righteous are qualified to come into God’s presence. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior then you are qualified to boldly come before the throne of God with confidence. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16). The righteousness given to us by Christ enables us to come before our Great God and worship Him, because He is Yahweh Tsidkenu – The Lord our Righteousness.
David describes for us what a holy person looks like in their works and their words: The godly person is one who does what is right and speaks truthfully and honestly (Psalm 15:2). He is sincere, open, and transparent. The righteous person doesn’t slander, discredit, or harm his neighbors or friends (Psalm 15:3). He also honors those who fear God, and he keeps his promises even if it isn’t advantageous for him to do so (Psalm 15:4). Not taking advantage of others, the godly person acts justly and fairly. He is not only qualified but also privileged to stand before God, to worship Him, and to enjoy fellowship in His presence forever! (Psalm 15:5). We can’t do any of these things on our own—God alone, by the work of the Holy Spirit, provides what we need to radiate His ways and grace and to be godly people.
The author of Hebrews wrote that “those who are not holy will not see the LORD” (Hebrews 12:14). In Christ we experience the joy and privilege of being made holy in God’s sight! “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2).
Are you qualified to come into God’s holy presence? Do you want to be able to come into His presence? There is only one way and that is by accepting Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior. He is the way, the truth and the life. There is no other way to God but through Jesus. “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
(John 14:6-7).
Of the various descriptions of the godly worshiper identified above in Psalm 15 verses 2-5, what characteristics describe you best? If you want live a more holy life in Jesus, ask God to show you.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly
Father, I thank You that I am covered in the Righteousness of Jesus so that when You look at me You see Him. Without Jesus I know that I would not be able to approach Your throne because of my sins, however, because of Jesus even when I have failed, fallen or stumbled in someway, or I feel ashamed about an attitude that I have had or a choice that I have made, I never ever have to hold myself back from the place of prayer. The Bible says that because I have faith in Jesus Christ I have the righteousness of Christ imputed to me and when God looks at me, He sees me through the Righteousness of Christ. Therefore, I come boldly before the throne of God in prayer and I cry out to You and say, Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your Name, Yahweh Tsidkenu, You are my Righteousness, and Jesus is the reason that I can come before You in prayer today. As I kneel before Your throne, I marvel in Your beauty, splendor, love, peace, and glory. Father, I want You to make me holy like You are Holy. I want to be conformed to the image of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I want to be a more Godly worshiper. I ask that the Holy Spirit increase in me every one of the characteristics identified in Psalm 15. In the name of Jesus,Yahweh Tsidkenu, my Righteousness, I pray, Amen.
