Why Are Some Prayers Not Answered?

Generally, God answers every prayer—although sometimes he says no. This verse gives the only exception to that rule: When we harbor sin in our hearts, God withholds his answer until we first give up that “cherished” sin (compare a similar teaching in Isaiah 59:1-2 and 1 Peter 3:7).

As you search for the truth about God, understand that it’s best to deal with the subject of sin before you deal with the subject of prayer. When you ask God to forgive you for the things you’ve done, your sin will no longer be a barrier in your relationship with him. If you are already a believer, don’t cherish things God despises.

A relationship with God is too valuable to short-circuit on something that can only hurt you.
