Why Should I be Afraid?

Key scripture – “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.” (Psalm 27:1-5).

Did you know that God’s peace is most evident in difficult circumstances?

This passage oozes with the peace of God. “Whom shall I dread…my heart will not fear…I shall be confident.” But the passage is also overflowing with trouble. “Evildoers came upon me…a host encamp against me…war arise against me…in the day of trouble.”

Many times the Lord’s plan for your life is not to remove you from troubling situations, but to show the world the difference He makes by giving you peace in spite of those things.

You ask, how can I have that peace in the day of trouble? By dwelling in His house, which means taking refuge in Him, remembering He is your refuge and strength, and living under the shadow of His wings.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. (Psalm 91:1-6).

“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.” (Psalm 91:9-13).

Read the passages above from Psalm 91 again slowly, and remember that He’s always with you, He is your refuge and your fortress.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, You are “my loving kindness, my fortress, my high tower, my deliverer, my shield, and the one in whom I take refuge.” (Psalm 144:2). I trust You completely at all times, and I pour out my heart before You because you are a refuge for me. (Psalm 62:8). Because you are my refuge, strength, stronghold, and deliverer I can call upon You anytime day or night and You save me from my enemies. You are “The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” (2 Samuel 22:3-4). In the Name of Jesus, my Rock, my Savior and my Lord, I pray, Amen.
