You are the salt of the earth

Key scripture – Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. So let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excell…ence and praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 13-16).
Salt never loses is flavor until it is mixed with things like dirt. We are the same way if we let sin remain in our life, we lose our flavor as children of God.
The salt that we should be using to flavor others with is the fruits of the Holy Spirit which are; “love, compassion, gentleness, patience, meekness, humility, kindness, and self control.” (Galatians 5:22-23). We have these fruits in us because we are children of God. If we sprinkle this fruit on everyone we come in contact with it will add flavor to their lives and create a thirst in them for what we already have, which is Jesus.
As the light of the world, we are to reflect his light into a world of darkness. We must allow God’s light to be in full display in our lives. Our responsibility is two fold: (1) to guard against anything that can separate us from the only source of light, for instance, this happens when we let sin remain in our life and we do not confess and turn away from it; and (2) to let our light so shine that others will see the reality of Christ in us and be drawn to Him and bring glory to the Heavenly Father. Just as stars shine brightly in the night, our lives as Christians should shine like a light in the spiritual darkness of this world.
Ask God today to help you to flavor others and to shine brightly with His love and joy so all those around you experience Him.
Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, I never want to lose my saltiness for You. I know that examples teach, and as Christians we are teaching others about Jesus by our words and actions. I want to be seasoned with Your Word, so that all of my thoughts, words, and actions are flavored by Grace, and I can then be used to season the lives of other people. Through the Holy Spirit, show me how to shine brightly for You, and be a beacon for Christ so that I illuminate Him and give light to others. Let the fruits of the Holy Spirit; love, compassion, gentleness, patience, meekness, humility, kindness, and self control grow in me and be shown to others through me. Bring people in my life that I can encourage, build up, and affirm. Show me how to love my neighbor as I love myself. Help me to always remember that as a believer in Christ, I am always a witness for You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
