You snooze, you lose!

  Laura Ingle

Key scripture- “Take a lesson from the ant, you who love leisure and ease. Observe how it works, and dare to be just as wise. It has no boss, no one laying down the law or telling it what to do, yet it gathers its food through summer and takes what it needs from the harvest. How long do you plan to lounge your life away, you lazy fool? Will you ever get out of bed? You say, “A little sleep, a little rest, a few more minutes, a nice little nap.” But soon poverty will be on top of you like a robber; need will assault you like a well-armed warrior” (Proverbs 6:6-11).

You snooze, you lose!

It’s a basic principle of life, isn’t it? Laziness leads to loss. We all know how it goes. You have a massive deadline approaching; but the immensity of what has to be done is so overwhelming that you find yourself putting off starting on it. Then when the deadline comes due, you find that you cannot meet it so your business suffers or your grades suffer, and you lose.

The same thing happens in sports, for example, if one football team trains hard and the other doesn’t train at all, who do you think is going to win? The one that trains of course! It’s so obvious.

Yet, when it comes to our spiritual lives, how often do we ignore this principle. We fill our minds with our favorite TV shows, we read whatever comes our way, and we play video games. We rarely if ever have a daily quiet time, where we get alone with God and pray and read His Word, and we think we are way to busy to memorize Scripture or have an extended time for prayer, then we wonder why nothing in our life seems to change, why we seem so far from God, why we feel so empty, why we have no peace and joy, and why we are always fretting and worrying.

If you want to stop making excuses for not meeting with God, and instead you want to see a real change in your attitude and your relationship with God, and you want to experience fellowship with God, then I challenge you to do this: Starting tomorrow morning, for the next thirty (30) days, set your alarm just fifteen minutes earlier and spend that time with God, and in His Word and prayer, and You will be amazed at what happens to you from the inside out.

Pray this – Our Precious Heavenly Father, forgive me for making time for everything else but You. I want to seek first Your Kingdom and Your Righteousness, therefore, I am going to start my days by meeting with You, talking to You about my day, and praying and reading Your Word. Nothing is more important than being with You first thing every morning. I am going to do that before I do anything else. I want my life and my body to be a living Holy sacrifice to You and I know that the only way I will know what that means is to meet with You and to read Your Word. I also know that this is the only way I will know how to walk in the way that You have commanded. Father, I long for Your guidance, teach me Your ways. I do not want to copy the behavior and customs of this world, I want to be a new and different person that walks in righteousness and that is upright and blameless in everything that I do. I want to serve notice to everyone that my allegiance is to You and only You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
